Around a third of mobile phone users do research on their phones before making buying decisions.

They are seeking more information about a product before they invest their hard-earned money on items.

Desktop shoppers (laptop and desktop devices) still rank a little higher in conversion rates, at 3.9% over mobile phone users at 3.5%.

However, you can see how mobile phones are catching up. Tablets, which are also considered mobile devices rank at 2.2% in conversion rates for online shopping. 

According to 2021 statistics, the average amount per order is about $50 more through desktop/laptop purchases over mobile orders.

One study showed that 67% of those surveyed claimed that the links and pages were too small to click.

It’s common for many mobile phone users to have security concerns when using their devices.

Even with new technology and antivirus programs for mobile doesn’t make some users feel any safer.

At 42% of users with security concerns, that’s close to nearly have of mobile users who responded to this survey.

11. As of 2021, The Worldwide Total Hours Spent Reached More than 100 Billion Hours in Shopping Apps.

Since 2018, the total hours spent in shopping apps rose from 48.7 billion hours to 100.46 billion hours.

During the pandemic, shopping apps saw a steady uptake of 18% year-over-year.

These stats include time spent on research, item lookups, item location searches, sales findings, and purchases.

You might think that groceries or food apps would be on top, but social media and fast fashion topped the charts for the most global shopping hours spent.

12. The Most-Preferred Method of Mobile Shopping Is via Dedicated Mobile Commerce Apps. 

Out of the methods of shopping via mobile commerce, 54% of completed purchases are done via a dedicated app, which is the preferred method of mobile shopping, according to JP Morgan. 

While the playing field is almost level across e-commerce completed transactions on a mobile device (44%), from a mobile browser (46%), and an in-app mobile purchase (54%), the in-app experience seems to be preferred.

For online retailers, all three options are viable and well worth the investment.

13. The Amazon Shopping App Is the Most Popular M-Commerce Platform for iOs Users. 

Mobile apps are the preferred method for mobile shoppers, according to surveys and research, but the Amazon Shopping app stands above the others for iOS users.

The Amazon Shopping app experiences 20.8 million daily active users (DAUs) in the United States.

The only mobile shopping app that comes close to Amazon’s is the Walmart shopping app, with over 18 million DAUs. 

Believe it or not, SHEIN comes in third with 2.195 million DAUs. That’s more than eBay, Etsy, or Sam’s Club.

While it’s good to know that Amazon tops the charts for iOS users, what are the other 9 shopping apps that made the top ten list?

We know that iOS users prefer the Amazon Shopping app. However, Android users prefer Walmart’s app, which is used by 20.7 million daily active users (DAUs).

Amazon’s shopping app comes in second among Android users, with just over 15.9 billion DAUs.. 

SHEIN is also third on Android with roughly 1.67 million DAUs. Next, eBay (just over 1.64 million DAUs), and Shop package and order tracker (about 1.25 million users).

Notice that SHEIN maintains 3rd place among both Android users and OS users. 

Also, the top ten list for Android shopping apps differs just a bit from iOS users.

While Bitcoin and cryptocurrency wallets are growing in popularity along with other up-and-coming payment apps for mobile commerce, let’s have a look at the primary options that are most trusted by online shoppers.

In order of popularity:

  1. Apple Pay: Allows for in-person, browser (Safari), iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, the Wallet app, or added debit, credit, or prepaid cards as payment methods.  
  2. Google Pay: Offers online payments via Android devices and added debit/credit cards.
  3. Amazon Pay: Uses virtual cards on the website and other sites. Also, you can pay through Alexa.
  4. Samsung Pay: For Samsung device users, you can create a digital wallet to add cards to make online and in-store purchases. Samsung Pay also offers their extra rewards and cashback programs to its users.
