What are the best times to post on TikTok?

The first social media platform to hit the world wide web is that of MySpace in 2004.

Since then, many others have emerged, including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. And while these have all been pretty successful in their own right, none have grown as fast as TikTok.

And, it’s not just for the young bods, looking to enhance their followers for vanity reasons, either. Social media is a fantastic platform in which to market your business, especially through the likes of Tik Tok.

In 2017, there were around 239 million TikTok account holders. By 2018, this had almost doubled to approximately 500 million. And, it just keeps on growing.

TikTok is mega hot right now. All across the globe, users are downloading the app faster than the blink of an eye.

It’s estimated that there are now around 800 million active TikTok users worldwide with more that 100 million in the US alone.

That’s an enormous amount of exposure, and equates to almost 20% of all global internet users!

As you can see, TikTok is an immensely popular platform. It’s literally full of tech-savvy users ready to snatch up the latest product, bag the best deal, or simply find some great brands to follow.

So whether you’re in the business of selling to the public, or you offer a service, or you simply want to get people’s attention, Tik Tok is the place to be.

Timing is Everything

Timing is Everything

Deciding to post on TikTok is the first step to increasing your global presence. The next thing is to determine what time to do it. Timing is key when it comes to posting on Tik Tok.

Post too early and most people will be asleep. Post too late and a lot of people will be at work, etc, etc.

One of TikTok’s most frequented areas is the ‘For You’ section. It’s estimated that as much as 75% of user’s time is spent here.

This area is where users can view new content from people they don’t yet follow and is similar to Instagram’s ‘Explore’ tab. Getting your content posted at the right time will increase your chances of getting a good reaction from people.

Another thing to bear in mind is that trends are forever changing. Just because something worked well in the past, doesn’t mean to say it will do the same again now. To get the most engagement from users you need to do your research first and get prepped.

If you’re only looking for exposure in your own country, then you only need to choose popular times relating to your home turf.

But, if you want to reach maximum viewers worldwide, you need to consider all countries user’s and when they like to visit their favourite social media platform.

What Are The Best Times to Post on TikTok?

When are users most engaged?

There have been various studies carried out by many different TikTok users in which to determine the best time to post on TikTok.

While there are other factors to consider alongside this, it is certainly a good starting ground.

Aim It at Your Target Audience by Using Analytics

But finding out the most popular times users visit Tik Tok is just part of the equation. You also need to consider who your audience is.

Posting something that’s aimed at teenagers at 6.30am is not going to get you a lot of views. You need to think about when your target audience is most likely to have some Tik Tok time. One of the best ways to do this is through the use of analytics.

To be able to take advantage of Tik Tok’s analytics, you need to ensure you have a pro account. It’s not a feature that’s available with a standard user account, but is essential when the aim is to get maximum exposure.

Tik Tok’s analytics reveal quite a lot about your viewers. It lets you know how many people have seen your video and how many followers you have.

You can also see things such as the top territories in which they come from, the gender split, and even what other content they’ve interacted with. You can even download and export the results directly to your computer for better viewing.

Switching to a Tik Tok pro account is easy. With a standard Tik Tok account set up, go to the menu by simply tapping the three little dots that are shown in the top-right hand corner of the app.

Then, select “Manage my account”, and finally tap “”Switch to Pro Account”. That’s it! Now, you’ll see a new item in the menu called “Analytics’.

The Pro Account Consists of Three Tabs:

  • Overview: Here you see a snapshot of some really useful data. It shows you the amount of views you’ve had (and when they were). It also shows you how many total followers you have and when they joined, as well as who’s viewed your profile. By default it shows the data for the previous 7 days, but you can also view it in 28 day segments too.

Another cool piece of data it gives you is your conversion rate. This tells you how many profile visits you got in comparison to the amount of views you had on your videos. It’s a good indicator as to whether people like your content and want to see more of it.

  • Content: This section allows you to see all of your post performances over the past 7 days. Even better, by clicking on an individual post you can see its total views, where they came from, and at what time. This is extremely useful when looking for data trends.
  • Followers: The final section in Analytics is the Followers tab. You should really spend some time getting to know this area as there’s some great info about your audience here. You can see where your followers are from and at what time they like to browse. This makes life a lot simpler when determining when you should post your next video.

Another graph you should get used to looking at in this section is the one relating to Followers Activity. This is literally a map showing you when your audience are at their busiest on TikTok.

Keep any eye on this over a period of a few weeks, and if the same trends keep recurring then you know you’ve discovered a good time to post.

Consider Your Content

You already know who your target audience is, and by now, you should have a good idea as to when is the best time to post on TikTok.

What’s left now, is to think about what it is you want to post. This is another point where Tik Tok’s analytics come in very useful.

Using analytics will help you easier determine what is going to have the most impact. So, the first thing you should do is look at your top-performing content.

To view this information, go to the analytics page on Tik Tok and tap “Content”. Here, you can see how each of your posts has performed over the past week and can gain great insight as to what people like to see.

If you want to learn more about an individual video, just click on one. You instantly get to know how many people have viewed, liked, and shared the post, as well as the average time they hung around to watch.

And even more importantly, it tells you the time and date you posted the content. Very useful information indeed!

Armed with this data, you can start to form a picture as to the connection between when you shared the post and when people viewed it.

If you find that the majority of your most trending posts were viewed on Saturday night, then you know that this is a good time to post.

Just remember that TikTok goes by Coordinated Universal Time (UTC), so make sure you convert this time to match the timezone of your followers!

If you find that you have a very similar amount of followers in different time zones, you have two options:

  • Go with the timezone that holds the largest percentage of your followers and stick to posting based on those hours

  • Vary your posting schedule by picking prime time slots for each timezone then alternate to accomodate for all.

Conclusion: Best Times to Post on TikTok

It’s not hard to post on TikTok.

Once you get the hang of it and know the best times to post on TikTok, you’ll see your followings soar in no time.
