Do you know how to save Instagram photos?

Millions of people upload to their Instagram profiles every day. Scroll through your Instagram feed and you’ll find everything from tranquil landscapes to funny cat photos. It’s not surprising that so many people want to save Instagram photos and use them at a later date.

Some common reasons to save Instagram photos include being able to create a personal travel bucket list album, being able to make a personal mood board, obtaining a copy of tagged photos that you can save to your camera, and saving your own Instagram photos just in case you lose the original image.

When it’s not enough to double tap someone’s photo, downloading Instagram images is a great option. However, saving an Instagram photo can be pretty difficult. There’s actually no save photo option, and this is to prevent issues related to copyright.

Whatever your reason is, it’s good to know that Instagram has strict rules around obtaining other people’s photos.

Is It Illegal to Download Instagram Images?

Before you download anything from Instagram, you need to learn about its copyright rules. If you took an Instagram video or photo, then you own the copyright to that post. As the owner of that post, you can stop others from distributing and copying your videos or photos.

You can stop others from creating new content based on your content, and from using it as well. You can also grant consent for other people to use your images, and you can prevent other people from using your images without that consent.

Instagram doesn’t stop people from saving Instagram posts so that they can share them later. However, you will need to ask permission from the person who owns the image. We think that it’s best to get this permission written down, so that you can cite it later.

Also, you need to give credit to that person when you share the image.

How To Save Instagram Photos?

You might want to save a photo that you have taken directly through Instagram.

Or you want to save the edited, filtered version to your camera. Saving Instagram photos is pretty easy; in fact, all it takes is turning on one setting, and your Instagram photos can be saved automatically.

Let’s check it out:

  • Go to your Instagram profile and select the icon that has three horizontal lines. This will be at the top of your page to the right.

 tap the icon

  • Select ‘settings’ and then ‘original photos’

  • Select the toggle to switch your profile to ‘save original photos’

As long as this option in your settings has been turned on, all the photos that you upload on Instagram will be saved to your camera roll automatically.

How to Save a Post Without Screenshotting it

Did you see an Instagram post that you really liked, and you want to save it for later?

Perhaps your favorite brand released a new product, and you want to save the image for later, so that you remember to buy it. You can easily keep track of these kinds of posts, and you don’t even have to take a screenshot.

This is because back in 2017, Instagram included a feature that allows its users to bookmark Instagram posts. This lets you quickly save a post to a folder within the app. So, how do you bookmark an Instagram photo?

Let’s check it out.

  • Simply select the bookmark icon that you will find below the image to the right. It looks like a little flag

  • Find the saved Instagram photo on your profile page
  • Select the three horizontal lines
  • Select the bookmark icon

To organize your saved Instagram photos:

  • Select ‘save to collection’
  • Use the plus icon to begin a new collection of photos

To organize your bookmarked images:

  • Visit your profile
  • Select the bookmark icon
  • Select the plus icon to start a new album and move your images that have been bookmarked

When you save Instagram images to collections, they are going to look like a personal feed.

However, this content can’t be seen by anyone else from here which means that it’s completely private. The owners of the images are also notified when their content has been bookmarked by you.

So, this feature isn’t as popular as stories, but we still think it’s pretty helpful.

It helps you keep track of the content they are trying to remember which you can then organize into different collections, and different categories.

Why Save Instagram Images to Collections?

Organize User-Generated Content

Saving Instagram images to collections is a great way to save posts that have mentioned your brand.

Look for videos or images where you have been tagged, or that use a unique hashtag that’s relevant to your brand. Add this content to Instagram collections.

This is your archive of user-generated content. Just remember to ask permission from the owner of the content before you share their post.

Keep on Top of the Competition

One important part of growing a business on Instagram is keeping track of the competition.

You need to know what your competitors are doing and saving Instagram photos can help you keep track of the engagement that they are getting on particular images.

For example, it’s worth creating a collection of images with entertaining captions.

This is going to serve as inspiration to make even better content yourself.

Remember, saving Instagram images to your collections is private, so your competition won’t be able to see them.

Take Inspiration from Other Profiles

Save the kind of Instagram images that inspire you. You can think of your albums as a digital mood board. It can be about anything.

Whether it’s a photo that you want to try and recreate, or a theme that you are going to try and implement into your own images, we think that this is a great way to use Instagram to inspire your creativity.

I Want to Save Images to my Camera Roll

There’s a good chance that you’ve most likely attempted to right-click on an Instagram post in order to save it.

You are wondering why it’s not this easy to save an Instagram image.

Of course, Instagram doesn’t have a problem with people automatically saving their own Instagram content to their camera roll.

And they also don’t have a problem with you bookmarking other people’s images.

However, if you want to save other people’s images to your camera roll, this is a different story. You can’t save images directly from Instagram, whether on mobile or through your web browser.

This is largely because of copyright issues. This is because you will need the owner’s permission if you want to make the most of their content.

Use a Third-Party App

If you’re really desperate, you can use a third-party Instagram photo downloader app or website that helps to download or save Instagram images.

DownloadGram helps you in a way that is safe and effective. All you need to do is copy the URL of the image, then open DownloadGram’s website in your web browser.

Paste the link into the box that you see and select the download button. Select the ‘download picture’ button to save the image.

Just keep in mind that most third-party apps aren’t going to work very well, and Instagram is really strict about how you access images to save.

We think that at the end of the day, to keep your reputation safe, make the most of Instagram’s collection feature, or go with one of the other options that we have talked about how to save Instagram photos above.
