Do you want to know how to add music to Instagram Story?

Instagram demands no introduction.

It has become the indisputable king of all social networking platforms and caters to billions of users around the world every day.

But, one feature that has helped Instagram get to where it is today is Stories.

Launched back in 2016, the Stories feature was meant to be a competition for Snapchat, which was the most trending app back then.

Instagram wanted to introduce something similar but with added features.

Soon, users flocked to Instagram and got fascinated with the large library of filters, stickers, and GIFs that the app seemed to offer.

Fast forward to 2018, Instagram added yet another feature to its Stories and that is Instagram Music.

Instagram now has a massive collection of songs that you can add to your Stories. Moreover, you can also import songs from popular music streaming apps.

However, since the feature was introduced only a couple of years ago, many Instagram users are still not sure about how to use it.

Hence, in this blog, we will discuss how to add music to Instagram Story in order to make it more entertaining to your audience.

Keep on reading!

How to Add Music to Instagram Story Using the Music Sticker

Are you looking to spruce up your Instagram Stories?

If yes, then what better way to make your Stories engaging than to add music to them?

In this section, we will walk you through the process of adding music to Instagram Stories.

Step 1: Launch the Instagram app on your device. Make sure it is updated to the latest version.

Step 2: Go to the Stories camera either by swiping left on your feed or by going to your profile and tapping on the plus (+) icon on your profile picture.

Step 3: Now, take a picture or video of whatever you would like to add music to.

Once you are done taking a picture or video, you will find a Sticker option on the top. Tap on it.

Step 4: Next, click on the Music sticker from the catalog of different stickers. Instagram will then pull up its in-app music library that features hundreds of songs.

Step 5: Select the song you like. Keep in mind that Instagram Stories are only 15 seconds long hence, the music clip has to have the same duration.

Hence, pick out the specific section of the song that you think would go with your Story and then tap on Done.

Step 6: Add other stickers or filters to your picture or video and post it on your Story!

A Few Pointers:

  • The duration of the music clip you choose will be the same length as the video you have clicked. This happens by default since you cannot capture a video that is longer than 15 seconds anyway. However, in the case of a picture, as mentioned, the maximum duration for the music clip is 15 seconds. You can shorten it, if you wish, by tapping on the option that says “15” with a round icon.
  • Before you post your Story, preview it with the music clip. See how it looks with the picture or video you have clicked. If you think it doesn’t go with the mood or aesthetic of your click, you can always choose another song or maybe even a different section of the same song. On the other hand, if you think your Story will look better with no music at all, you can also remove the music option by dragging the music sticker to the trash can that appears below.

How to Add Music to Instagram Story without the Music Sticker

You have now added the music clip of your choice to your Story and you think it goes perfectly with the mood of your story.

But, there is one thing that is still bothering you and that is the music sticker over your Story that displays the name of the artist and the song.

There is a workaround to removing it.

Just drag the sticker out of the frame so that it doesn’t restrict the frame of your Story. The song will still play over your Story.

If you cannot find a song on Instagram that you’d like to put over your Story, you can always import it from some external music streaming app.

Just open SoundCloud, Shazam, Spotify, or any other music-playing app you use.

Find the song that you think will go perfectly with your Instagram Story. Tap on the three-dot icon and choose the Share option.

Select Instagram Stories. The song will now play on your Instagram Story.

How to Add Lyrics to Instagram Story

Instagram upped its game last year by adding yet another interesting feature.

You can now display the lyrics of the song you are playing on your Story.

This feature helped Instagram to become a karaoke app where users can sing along to their favorite songs by following the lyrics on the screen.

But, don’t get your hopes too high since this feature is still in the works and as a result, you won’t have access to lyrics of every song.

Usually, the more popular ones feature lyrics with them. However, the same cannot be said for songs which are a little less known.

If you notice an “E” icon beside the song on Instagram’s music library, it means that the song has lyrics.

Adding lyrics over your Instagram Story does not call for much confusion. Follow the steps below.

As mentioned, not every song will feature an option for lyrics.

Hence, if you wish to put a song that will display lyrics, choose one with the “E” icon beside it so that you know it has lyrics.

Choose the section of the song you wish to put on your story.

Once you select a song, the lyrics will automatically pop up on the screen without you needing to do anything else.

Obviously, the lyrics will change depending on which section of the song you choose.

Step 6: You will find four types of fonts that you can choose for the lyrics.

Change the appearance of the lyrics depending on the aesthetic of your Story. After you have added everything, tap on Done.

Step 7: Add other stickers or filters to your picture or video and post it on your Story!

This is how to add music to Instagram Story along with lyrics. Lyrics are a great way to convey a message through your Stories.

Hence, choose a particular section of the song that has lyrics that resonate with the Story you have posted.

Why Can’t I Add Music To My Stories?

Instagram

Instagram Music or Lyrics are relatively new features that need a lot of work.

The platform is still trying to progressively roll out the feature across different nations.

The reason why this feature has not developed as fast as you would expect is because of the contentious issue of Music rights.

The app has arranged licenses with different music companies in order to make the feature available on its platform.

Restricted Location

The first countries that enabled the feature are Australia, New Zealand, France, Germany, Sweden, the UK, and the USA.

However, in order for the app to introduce the option to other countries, it has to manage licensing agreements separately with each location.

This will take some time since legal difficulties involve a lot of complications.

Business Account

Moreover, there might be another reason why you can’t access music on Instagram and that is because you are using a Business account.

Some of the agreements that Instagram has with music companies state that Instagram Music can only be used by personal accounts.

Business accounts will still get a selection of songs but the size of the collection is very restricted.

You can always choose to revert back to a personal account.

Use VPN

If your country does not support Instagram Stories, there is not much you can do except wait around for the feature to be available in your country.

But, just like most things, there are a few workarounds to this problem as well.

You can use a VPN on your device and set the location to any of the countries where the feature is available.

This will allow you to access the Instagram Music feature easily.

Edit Videos Beforehand

However, not everyone feels comfortable using a VPN since it has its own set of risks.

But, there is one way you can still add music to your Instagram Stories.

Instagram users have been adding music to their Stories ever since the inception of the feature and that is by using a video that already has music on it.

If you really wish to add music to your Instagram Stories but do not have the particular song available on Instagram or your country restricts it, you can play that song on some other device and record a video of whatever you wish while you place the other device close to your phone so that it picks up the song.

Although this is an amateur method, it is still a clever one. Of course, there isn’t any way of adding lyrics if you use this method.

Lastly, you can edit a picture or a video beforehand on some external video editing app and add music to it.

There are multiple apps available including InShot and Animoto.

Just add the music clip of your choice to the video or picture you wish to upload and post it on Instagram.

Even though this method does include a lot of steps, it is still worth it since you don’t have to feel restricted by the conventional method or by the absence of the feature in your particular location.
