The Ultimate NordPass Review 2024

NordPass Review

NordPass is one of the best-known names in the business, but is it the one you should be using?

If you’re looking for the best password manager available then it’s worth reading all of this NordPass review.

However, if you’re short on time, check out the quick summary.

Quick Summary

NordPass is easily one of the best, if not the best password managers on the market.

Here’s a quick summary of why that’s the case:

  • Easy to use
  • Best security on the market
  • Built-in password health checker
  • Share and sync with friends and loved ones
  • Multi-factor authentication
  • Competitively priced – offers a premium plan and a free one (pricing starts from $1.43 a month)
  • Works with Windows, Mac, iOS, Android, Linux, & ChromeOS

In short, whether you’re a beginner or a computer expert, you’ll find NordPass an essential addition.

NordPass Review

NordPass

NordPass was released in 2019, making it a relatively young addition to the market.

However, it was created by the same team as NordVPN, a VPN provider that is well-recognized in the industry and deemed to be the best of its kind.

👉 Get NordPass Here

NordPass is easy to use.

Once you’ve signed up to the service you’ll be able to enter your passwords into the system.

They are stored on the cloud, making them accessible from anywhere.

They currently offer a business package with a 14-day free trial and a personal package with a free trial and a 30-day money-back guarantee.

Getting Started

To start using NordPass you’ll need to create an account.

All you have to do is enter your email address and choose your payment plan. (More on that in a moment).

👉 Get NordPass Here

You’ll then need to make your payment, this can be done via debit or credit card, PayPal, Google Pay, Amazon Pay, or even with cryptocurrency.

The free plan skips the payment steps and instantly downloads the setup program. You’ll then need to finish creating your account.

This means deciding on a strong password. It’s the only password you’ll need to remember as it will give you access to all your other passwords.

You’ll then have access to the NordPass password manager and can start adding passwords and syncing your vault!

The Free Plan

NordPass

The free plan costs you nothing and gives you a 30-day free trial of the premium plan, allowing you to see the difference.

You don’t need a credit card to sign-up for a free plan.

It allows one user access, securely stores your credit cards, notes, and passwords, and offers autosave and autofill functions.

There is no limit to how many passwords you can store and it allows you to store notes, credit card details, and even personal information.

Alongside storing your passwords, it can generate passwords for you.

These are generally much more secure as they are random and have no connection to you personally.

It has to be said that the free plan is surprisingly generous.

You get all the core features and significantly more than any other free password manager offers.

You should note that the free version lets you sync your passwords between devices but you have to log out and then log back in if you want to change the device you’re using.

Premium Option

NordPass Premium Plan

In contrast, the premium option will cost you $1.43 a month and offers a 30-day money-back guarantee.

It’s also restricted to one user and securely stores credit cards, notes, and passwords while offering autosave and autofill options.

👉 Get NordPass Here

However, the premium version also allows you to stay logged in if you’re switching devices and will check your passwords to see if they are weak or have been reused

Perhaps the most important element of the premium plan is that it scans the web, including the dark web, for data breaches.

If it detects any that may relate to your data it will instantly alert you by email.

You’ll then be able to change all your passwords and protect your sensitive information.

The premium plan also allows you to save file attachments, provided they are no bigger than 3GB.

You can share passwords securely and even grant emergency access. It’s possible to share your passwords with as many people as you wish.

Naturally you can sync your password manager across multiple devices.

You can even stay logged in when switching devices, allowing you to be logged in on six devices at the same time.

There is also a family option that offers the same features as the premium account.

However, it’s $2.70 a month and allows six users.

If you’re choosing between free and premium then opt for premium.

The cost is negligible and you’ll get more features, including better security and an easier-to-use product.

I personally use the premium version. It came out with flying colors in all of my tests.

Business Plan

NordPass Business Plan

NordPass also offers a business password manager. It costs $3.50 a month per user. There is no limit regarding the number of users that can join the plan.

This option is aimed at businesses and effectively offers the same features as the premium plan.

Advantages

NordPass has a lot of promising benefits.

Encryption

NordPass 1

NordPass is possibly the only password manager which uses XChaCha20.

It’s the very latest in security technology, and is currently impossible to hack.

Most password managers use the older 256-bit AES.

While this offers excellent protection and is believed impossible to hack, having the very latest and best security, such as NordPass offers, is reassuring.

It means that all your passwords are encrypted, even if your account was hacked, the hacker wouldn’t be able to work out what the passwords are.

Alongside this high-level encryption, NordPass offers zero-knowledge architecture.

This means that your master password is stored locally, not in the cloud.

The only person that can access it is you. NordPass staff are unable to get your password or decode it.

One Password

NordPass insists that you create one password to access your account.

It’s known as the master password and is the only password you need to remember.

As mentioned, the NordPass staff cannot access this password.

You need to remember it to gain access to all your other passwords.

The good news is, unlike many password managers, it is possible to securely reset your password if you’ve forgotten it.

But, to do so you’ll need the recovery code which is shown on your screen during the signing-up process.

It’s essential to make a note of this, without it you won’t be able to recover or reset your master password!

Of course, as this password is very important, it should be secure.

Ideally a random mix of letters and numbers, with no connection to you personally, and at least 15 characters long.

Multi-Factor Authentication

NordPass Multi-Factor Authentication

Multi-factor authentication is part of the NordPass package, regardless of which type of account you have.

It means you can’t log into your account with just a username and password, it needs to be authorized by a code as well.

👉 Get NordPass Here

The code is sent during the login process and is different every time.

You can receive the code by email or directly to your authenticator app.

The most popular ones are Google and Microsoft authenticators.

However, there are plenty of others that you can use and work with NordPass.

It’s also possible to have the code sent via password keys.

These are the most secure because they must be received to a physical device, registered to you.

That keeps your passwords and information safe as it is unlikely someone else will have your device.

Biometrics

NordPass Biometrics

Another excellent feature offered by NordPass is biometric identification.

It allows you to unlock your account with your fingerprint or facial recognition. There’s no need to remember any passwords.

Of course, you will need to be using a biometric-enabled device.

We found the procedure to be fast and smooth.

Automatic Back-ups

The NordPass system is designed to backup information regularly.

This is to make sure all password changes are saved instantly, keeping your information up to date even if you experience power failures, connection issuers, or device problems.

Syncing & Sharing

NordPass Members Sharing

Your master password is stored locally, making it secure and virtually impossible for anyone to access.

However, all the passwords in the NordPass manager are stored in the cloud.

This ensures they can be easily synced between different devices.

It effectively ensures you can access your passwords from anywhere and any device, without any issue.

You can also temporarily or permanently share access to your account. This is normal for most people.

With NordPass you can set the password to be shared and decide how much access and control the person will have over your passwords and personal information.

Password Generator

NordPass Password Generator

Naturally, NordPass doesn’t just manage your passwords. It can also generate them for you.

All you have to do is enter the generator screen and tell NordPass how long the password needs to be.

👉 Get NordPass Here

You’ll also need to tell the system what needs to be included: upper and lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters.

NordPass generates the password and automatically saves it for you.

It is possible to set NordPass to word mode.

This is when it will create random passwords but they are focused around a word, giving you a chance of remembering them.

Health Check For Passwords

NordPass Data Breach Scanner

Installing NordPass gives you access to its health checker.

It will scan all your passwords and advise you whether they are weak, reused, or strong passwords.

Weak passwords don’t contain enough variety in the characters and are usually not long enough to be secure.

Strong passwords tend to be at least 12 characters and are a random mixture of letters, numbers, and symbols.

Reused passwords are passwords that have been used before, even if on a different account.

It also includes any that are very similar, such as you’ve added a number to the end of the password.

The health check will also tell you if any of your passwords are older than 90 days.

If so, they need to be changed.

Data Breach Scanning

NordPass Data Breach Scanning

A NordPass feature that we love is data breach scanning.

This regularly scans the web and the dark web looking for any trace that your passwords have been compromised.

👉 Get NordPass Here

Your password might be on a commonly used list. Alternatively, your email address may have been found on a leaked info database.

This feature is built into the system and scans regularly, notifying you instantly if there is an issue.

You can then change your passwords as needed. If you are subject to a data breach it’s worth changing all your passwords.

Disadvantages

NordPass is well-designed and easy to use. It’s highly secure and the only real disadvantage is the limited ability to define passwords.

It’s not possible to customize their creation.

In addition, the list of features is smaller than some competitors. However, this shouldn’t be an issue for most people.

Independent Audit

It’s worth noting that NordPass underwent an extensive third-party audit in 2020.

This gives the password manager better authenticity.

More importantly, the independent audit focuses on checking everything that NordPass does. It specifically looks for vulnerabilities.

The audit covered all versions of NordPass, whether being used on a desktop, mobile, or some other device.

No security issues were found.

A second of these audits was performed in June 2022 and no issues were found. This was a SOC Type 1 audit.

The Type 2 involves being observed for six months, they are currently having this audit completed and again, no issues have been found.

In short, the findings of these independent audits should give you the confidence you need to use this product.

Summing Up: Is NordPass Secure?

The bottom line is simple, NordPass offers a password manager with the best possible security and an attractive price.

Others may offer additional features, however these are simply gimmicks.

Everything you need to securely generate and store passwords is included in your NordPass premium subscription.

Signing up for the package is likely to be one of the best decisions you’ve ever made.

In other words, this NordPass review concludes there is no better option on the market.
