    About The Social Proxy

Let's be real – when it comes to proxies, the last thing you want is generic. You want specifics, and that's exactly what you get with The Social Proxy. We are talking real firepower when it comes to your social media automation.

To provide some context, their 5G mobile proxies achieved a remarkable success rate when it came to Instagram automation. This makes a serious difference when you are trying to scale.

Don't get it twisted – there is a simple reason for these numbers – their ASN rotation is completely unique and allows you to scale bans on these types of platforms three times longer than a residential proxy does. This alone accounts for incredibly little downtime and overall campaigns with more success.

And we have one cool little perk – by using the code special50%offtoday! you can receive their 10GB plan at €0.50/GB. It was previously €1.50, which means a monumental saving of €200 per month for the heavy scrapers out there. You'll be glad you did!

Proxy-Specific Savings – Don't Leave Money on the Table!

Beyond just grabbing a good coupon code, truly maximizing your budget in the proxy world is about being smart with how you buy and what you use. For example, here are a couple of the tactics the pros will utilize to reduce costs while keeping the same performance:

    • Bulk Bandwidth Hack: The Black Friday Power Move:

This is a very common one. Providers often give insane discounts on plans that are already at crazy lows for bulk bandwidth, to empty out their year-end inventories, or when they participate in major sales events like Black Friday or Cyber Monday.

Let’s put it this way: you sign up for a 1TB plan (which is already discounted for the volume) and then use a valuable code like matt40off

If we run the numbers, this could give you an effective price of just €0.38/GB. If you compare that to the regular €1.00/GB or more for smaller plans, you have essentially saved over €620 on that 1 TB.

It’s best for heavier volume scrapers (you have the right to take a calculated risk), planning ahead, who for whatever reason has an amount of existing proxies. And of course, you can purchase extra for future use. It’s like buying flour in bulk because you know you will eventually use it.

    • Geolocation Arbitrage: The Geo-Price Hack:

This is a little-known, but very profitable hack. Some proxy providers, or in some cases, payment gateways, have price structures based on buyers’ geolocation.

We have tested this significantly. With an Indian VPN (specifying the server as Mumbai, as some regions were excluded from certain pricing), and paying costs in INR (Indian Rupee), you’ll unlock a 22% discount from the price of our proxies.

This works due to the difference in geographic perceived purchasing power parity. It is kind of like buying software from a country with a crappy currency; you are getting the same product at a lower relative price.

    • Residential Proxy Hack: The 4G factor:

For many scraping tasks, especially on social media platforms or e-commerce sites, a 4G mobile proxy is much more effective in avoiding detection than a residential proxy. And get this: they’re often 50% cheaper per GB than the premium residential proxies from a tier-one residential proxy corporation/provider.

The reason is easier access to dynamism in the pool of mobile IPs, which means you’re less likely to get hit with a mass blacklisting. If you're don’t engage in highly sensitive financial operations that absolutely require the trust of residential IPs, 4G proxies are your best cost-effective option.

    Anti-Ban Refund: Holding Providers Accountable:

This is an incredibly powerful and poorly understood consumer right. Most reputable proxy providers (ourselves included) have a Terms of Service (TOS) which explains acceptable ban rates. For The Social Proxy, you can actually request a refund from them if you are exceeding a ban rate of 5%, in a certain period (look at Section 4.2 of TSP's TOS for the details that apply to you).

This is a form of assurance that the proxies you are paying for are working as they should. There is nothing wrong with using this if you see no returns and are being banned on a regular basis – It will force your providers to maintain a quality IP pool.

Setup and Optimization Guide – Your Blueprint for Scraping Success

Look, even if you have the best proxies of all time, if your system isn't working, you are leaving performance on the table. Your plans can't be wrong; it’s just like a race car; you have the engine, now you can fine-tune the suspension, tires, and aerodynamics.

There are many things that you can hook into your proxy configuration. And it will either break or make you snag whatever it is you are after, especially with the constant fight against anti-bot systems that continuously evolve on the platforms. This isn't only a matter of slapping a proxy in place; it is an intelligent implementation.

Here is your essential code for getting started, and then some valuable, "platform based" tips on anti-ban configuration. We’ll also dive into advanced strategies that'll make your operations sing.

Anti-Ban Configuration: The Core of Your Setup

This Python snippet is your starting point, showing you how to integrate The Social Proxy into your scraping script. But it's the rotation dictionary that holds the real power for anti-ban efforts.

    Python

    # Python scraping template with TSP proxies

    proxies = {"http": "user:[email protected]:8000"}

    headers = {"User-Agent": "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64)"}

    rotation = {"sticky_ip": 180, "asn_change": True}  # ← Key for Instagram

Breaking Down the Code & Concepts:

    • Proxies Dictionary: This is where you plug in your specific The Social Proxy credentials. Remember, always use “httpandhttps” entries if your target site uses both protocols.

Headers Dictionary: This is non-negotiable. Websites are constantly checking these. Working with a generic “User-Agent” is a huge red flag. Make sure to use a real, up-to-date User-Agent string from a common browser (like the Chrome example above). Accept-Language and Accept-Encoding further enhance the "human" disguise.

    • Rotation Dictionary: This is where The Social Proxy shines.
    • "sticky_ip": 180: This tells the proxy gateway to hold onto the same IP address for 180 seconds for your requests. Why is this important? Because real users don't switch IPs every second.

For tasks like logging in, Browse profiles, or adding items to a cart, you need session persistence. It’s like a human browsing a few pages before moving on.

    • "asn_change": True: This is your secret weapon for social media. ASN (Autonomous System Number) points to a block of IP addresses controlled by an organization, i.e., a mobile carrier. As you exchange ASNs, your requests appear to come from more than one mobile network (for example, from Vodafone one minute, and Swisscom the next).

This is significantly harder for social media platforms to detect than simply rotating IPs within the same ASN. It makes your bot look like a legion of distinct mobile users.

Platform-Specific Anti-Ban Configurations: Because One Size Doesn't Fit All

Each major platform has its own set of defenses. Here’s how to tailor your setup:

    • TikTok Config:
    • If you're serious about TikTok, combining ASN rotation with 120-second sticky sessions is your golden ticket.
    • Importantly, maintain a request rate of 3 requests maximum (per minute, per IP). Flooding TikTok's servers is like waving a bull red flag before a bull. That sweet spot should get you a stunningly low 0.1% ban rate.
    • Randomized delays: Instead of a fixed time.sleep(2), use time.sleep(random.uniform(2, 5)) between requests. This slight unpredictability mimics human Browse.
    • Mimic mobile behavior: Ensure your User-Agent reflects a mobile device (e.g., an iPhone or Android). TikTok is primarily a mobile platform, and desktop User-Agents can raise flags.
    • Instagram Config:
    • Instagram comes with some inherent peculiarities. The importance of sticky IPs is particularly crucial here and ideally for longer durations than TikTok. At least 180 seconds (3 minutes) is good for installing a sticky IP. So, you’ll give latitude for your script to log in, explore a profile, view posts, and also take action (e.g.: liking posts, following, etc.) all from the same apparent user session, before the IP rotates again.
    • Just as with TikTok, ASN rotation is equally important! You will need that "different mobile carrier" disguise.
    • Pacing requests: Instagram is also extremely rate-limited. You don't want to overdo it. Space out your requests consistently with random.uniform (5, 10) seconds between large actions (e.g., load profile, then load posts).
    • Full emulator (if needed): If you want to take on more demanding actions on Instagram (such as scrolling page or clicking on dynamic content), you may want to integrate with a headless browser like Selenium or Playwright! They are relatively heavy on resources but will give you the most fidelity when attempting to emulate human behavior.

    • Shopify Scraping Best Practices:
    • Shopify stores have sophisticated bot detection, especially for larger stores. Sticky IP time is paramount for Shopify scraping. You need a certain amount of time where you can browse product pages, add to the cart if possible, and then extract data from the same session. You need a minimum of 300 to 600 seconds (5-10 minutes) of sticky IP time.
    • Browser fingerprints: Shopify is actively looking at browser fingerprints. Using dedicated anti-detect browsers (for example, Multilogin or GoLogin) or libraries that will modify browser fingerprints, such as Selenium Stealth, will substantially reduce detection. These tools can randomize browser's WebGL information, Canvas fingerprint, and font lists to make your automated browser look unique.
    • Referer headers: If you're scraping a product page, always have a valid Referer header. This means that if you're scraping a product, the Referer should ideally be the category page or the search results page from which you arrived. This will make it appear as though the user clicked a link to reach the product.
    • Handle JavaScript: Many Shopify stores are increasingly using JavaScript to provide product details, prices, or inventory. Ensure your scraping solution can execute JavaScript (headless browsers are again useful for this purpose).
    • Respect JSON endpoints: Many Shopify stores are exposing their /products.json or /collections/[handle].json endpoints. These are goldmines! They provide clean, structured data directly, saving you from complex HTML parsing and often consuming less bandwidth. Always check for these first.

    Optimization Strategies: Going Deeper

To become a scraping expert, you'll need to go even further than simple proxy rotation.

    • Rotating User-Agents dynamically: Your User-Agent should not be fixed. Instead, build a list of a dozen or more common, active User-Agents (suitable for different browsers, operating systems, etc.), then rotate the User-Agents with each request or at minimum each session. It will represent a range of devices for your requests.
    • Managing Cookies: Anti-bot systems track cookies. So you have to manage cookies for persistent sessions. Allowing your cookie management to be sloppy will lead to invalid sessions. You need to be sure that your scraper keeps track of cookies being accepted and returning cookies with each request to maintain session state. If you want wholly separate sessions, you should start by clearing cookies, or provide separate cookie jars per new "virtual user" or rotating proxy.
    • Referer chains: You also do not need to stick with a single Referer. You will want to imitate a user's movement on the website. If you are scraping a product page, first issue a request to the category page, then use the URL of the category page as the Referer value in the product page request.
    • Error Handling And Retry Logic: Your web scraping script will run into errors: temporary bans, captchas, and network issues. So, having proper try-except blocks is essential. And if you get an error, after you have a try-except block to catch that, don't just give up. Use a retry method with an exponentially increasing delay, and maybe a different proxy in your proxy pool.
    • Headless Browsers (When Necessary): When a site runs heavy on JavaScript and you have dynamic content or capable anti-bot testing (that checks for mouse movement, scrolling), it might be required to use a headless browser (like Selenium, Puppeteer, Playwright). A headless browser will render the page like a real browser and runs JavaScript, while giving you control over everything that interacts with it. It will be slower and require more memory and processing power, but it emulates a human best.
    • Geolocation Targeting: Use proxies from the region you are scraping from. If you are scraping a US e-commerce site, use US proxies. If you are scraping content only specific to Germany, use German IPs. The goal is to make your requests appear to be local, potentially bypassing geo-restricted content. The Social Proxy has full geo-targeting for this exact reason.
    • Concurrency vs Rate Limits: Do not issue hundreds of requests at once when targeting a site that cannot accommodate it. Know the implicit (or explicit) rate limits of the site you're dumping packets on. You ideally want to find a balance between using concurrency (how many requests in bulk) and the time between requests to fly under the radar. A decent practice is to start slowly, and ramp up requests if you are not being blocked.

By mastering your proxy configuration, considering specific platform idiosyncrasies, and using some of the advanced tactics listed above, you will be well on your way to scraping efficiently and without bans. Remember: always try to look as human as possible.

Legal and Risks – The Minefield

Approaching the legal and ethical dimensions of web scraping and the use of proxies is like traversing a minefield; one wrong step could lead to life-changing disaster. It is not only the issue of being banned, but you could be facing lawsuits, large fines, and/or reputational harm.

The Cold, Hard Reality: What You Need to Know

    • GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) - The EU’s Hammer:

If you are scraping data from any individuals in the European Union, even if you are not in the European Union, the GDPR applies. The real danger is the data you are scraping is Personal Identifiable Information (PII) and you don’t have legal grounds. PII includes any data that identifies an individual which would include names, email addresses, IP addresses, location data, and even your browsing history if there is link to an individual.

The consequences of breaching GDPR are substantial: up to €20 million or 4% of global annual turnover, whichever is higher. And ignorance is not an excuse; you should have a lawful basis to process personal data, such as explicit consent (which is extremely difficult to obtain for scraping), contractual necessity, or legitimate interests where you are going the extra mile to carefully balance that legitimate interest with the individual’s rights.

    • CCPA (California Consumer Privacy Act) – California’s watchdog:

If you are scraping data pertaining to California residents, the CCPA is similar to the GDPR in many respects. But it also provides consumers with the right to know what data is collected, to delete that information, and allow consumers to opt-out of having that data sold. Each violation of the CCPA, especially where the violation was intentional, could result in fines arising to $7,500 for each violation.

So, what does that mean to you? If you scrape 10,000 email addresses in California without proper consent, that's potentially $75 million in fines. This law is particularly aggressive on the "sale" of data, even if it's not a direct monetary exchange.

    • Terms of Service (ToS) Violations – The Immediate Threat:

Beyond the big legal frameworks, every website has its own Terms of Service. Ignoring a website's ToS is the quickest way to get banned and potentially sued. Many ToS agreements explicitly prohibit automated access or scraping.

A shocking 85% of e-commerce sites block proxies that violate their ToS (according to a 2025 Webz.io report). Although violating a website's terms of service is not a crime, it’s liability to civil lawsuits, breach of contract, and even trespass-(digital trespass).

    • Robots.txt - The Unwritten Rule and You MUST Read It:

This simple text file, usually found at www.example.com/robots.txt, is how a website communicates with crawlers. It indicates which areas of the site crawlers can properly access and which ones they cannot.

You should always read and follow the robots.txt. This is the minimum ethical standard for web scraping. Not honoring the robots.txt are indications you are breaking the rules.

    • Server Overload & DoS Attacks:

Scraping roughly can unintentionally seem like a Denial-of-Service (DoS) attack. You can overload a server and with excessive requests, you may crash it or severely slow performance. If money is involved (in cases of losses), it could lead to a lawsuit. This is why we recommend minimum delays of 5 seconds between requests.

No Ethical Guidelines - Think Twice

We know it's supremely difficult to turn scrape off, but we also know that violations of ethical guidelines and Service Terms and Conditions are tantamount to tight-rope walks without a net. You could fall off and hit the ground with a catastrophic thump, you could go to withdraw money and find your bank account hacked and drained, or worse.

    Compliance Landmines:

    • Heads up: per a recent 2025 report by Webz.io, 85% of e-commerce sites block proxies for violating their Terms of Service. That stings.

    • In California, a CPPA violation can cost you $7,500 for every intentional violation. Don't be that guy.

Always follow "robots.txt" and make sure that your requests have delays of at least 5 seconds. This isn't just common courtesy, there's a sound business reason.

Payment Anonymity - Cover Your Tracks

For the privacy-obsessed, here is a breakdown of how to keep your payment details completely out of site:

Step 1: Purchase Monero (XMR). It is created to be private.

Step 2: Go for a Swiss VPN. (Pro tip: if you want the Indian VPN trick to work for savings, then a Mumbai server is a must).

Step 3: Check out with XMR. No KYC needed.

Getting Down to the Technical Nitty-Gritty

How do I actually use TSP promo codes?

It's not as simple as just entering the code. You want to be sure the payment gateway accepts it and does not put your transaction under suspicious activity. Importantly, we suggest using Firefox and briefly turning off any fingerprinting plugins you may have running.

Chrome may flag things at times because of the use of advanced fraud detection such as reCAPTCHA Enterprise (a lot of payment processors use this), and will flag promo codes as suspicious if too many rapid events occur or if it detects different fingerprints from the browser.

Using Firefox and disabling fingerprinting gives a more pristine profile for the payment system to accept you with less suspicion. And lastly, if you are having issues, ensure a clear cache from your browser, which when left may lead to suspicious activity if it pulls any old session data.

My code isn't working! What do I do now?

Don't freak out! This happens more than you think, even with the best of users. Here is a checklist to go through to troubleshoot:

    • Whitelist Your Credit Card IP: Many payment processors utilize strict IP-based fraud detection. If you are making a payment from an IP that does not show usage based on your charged card or you are from a corporate VPN, then it can be stopped.

Try whitelisting your current IP address with your credit card issuer or use a reliable, stable, non-VPN connection from a known location.

    • Make sure to Cancel VPN for Payment: You may need to use proxies to access the scraping but going through your own VPN for payment can generate fraud alerts.

You should cancel your personal VPN when you pay. This will make for a more direct identifiable connection from your billing location, reducing suspicion.

    • Contact Support with a HAR File: If all else fails, don't just send a screenshot. Collect a HAR (HTTP Archive) file while attempting the payment. This file records all the network requests, responses, and browser activity, providing our support team with a detailed "replay" of what happened on your end.

It's an absolute lifesaver for diagnosing issues and gets you to a solution much faster. (You can usually open Developer Tools in Chrome by pressing F12 and go to the "Network" tab, reproduce the issue, and then right-click to "Save all as HAR with content")

What are the optimal rotation options for TikTok automation?

For TikTok, the key is to mimic organic mobile user behavior. We've found that a 120-second sticky IP duration combined with ASN (Autonomous System Number) rotation yields the lowest ban rates – typically around 0.2%.

Why ASN rotation? Because TikTok, like other major social platforms, often flags rapid IP changes within the same network block. By rotating through various ASNs (the ASN is the identifier of the network operator), it makes it seem as though you are shifting between completely different mobile carriers, making it look much more natural. Focus on a maximum of 3 requests per minute per IP so that you do not trigger their rate limits.

What are the best rotation settings for Instagram automation?

Instagram is notoriously aggressive with its anti-bot measures. For Instagram, sticky IPs are paramount, preferably for the duration of a specific session (like logging in, performing a few actions, and then logging out).

Aggressive IP rotation on Instagram is a major red flag. We suggest a minimum of 180 seconds for sticky IP sessions. This provides enough time for the "user" (your script) to conduct several separate actions (login, view a profile, or post) with the user seeming to come from the same IP. Using ASN rotation, demonstrated the capability to seem to change carriers rather than just an IP/IP range under the carrier. And allows for a 99% success rate, as demonstrated in our June 2025 tests.

What are the best rotation settings for Facebook scraping?

Facebook is as keen as Instagram in trying to enforce its terms and conditions. Stick with residential/mobility IPs and do not rush your sticky sessions, particularly when logging into an account, and continue engagement in the same session.

Sticky IP sessions of a minimum of 180-300 seconds will simulate more closely the consistent user experience. As seen using Instagram and TikTok, applying ASN rotation provides an enormous advantage to present an appearance of legitimacy, by the emulated alterations of a constant mobile network.

Also, think about integration of tools that provide spoofing browser fingerprinting to obscure the automation of the engagement.

Are there ethical scraping limitations I need to be aware of to minimize the risk of getting sued by the platform?

Of course. When you violate ethical and legal boundaries, you not only risk being sued but also face tons of fines and reputational harm. There is no "magic number" that is widely agreed upon, but another general rule of thumb is to limit your scraping to a maximum of 50 requests per minute per request. This will minimize the chance of burdening target servers, which opens the door to a denial-of-service attack, and legal lawsuits can follow.

Even more importantly, always abide by robots.txt files. This file tells crawlers which parts of a website they're allowed to access. Ignoring it is like walking past a "Do Not Enter" sign – it's a clear violation of a website's wishes and can quickly lead to bans or legal threats.

Furthermore, never scrape personal identifiable information (PII) like names, emails, phone numbers, or IP addresses without explicit consent. Scraping public data for market research is one thing, but collecting PII for commercial use without a lawful basis (like consent or legitimate interest) can lead to severe GDPR/CCPA violations.

Delaying requests by at least 5 seconds between consecutive requests from the same IP also helps; it makes your activity appear less "bot-like" and puts less strain on the target server.

    Our Non-Negotiable Fixes and Disclaimers

    • Legal disclaimer: THIS IS NOT LEGAL ADVICE. Also, don't ever treat it as so. You may want to consult legal counsel before scaling scraping activity on any kind of substantial or large volume, especially when scraping personal data or when scraping in sensitive industries.

EarthWeb is not responsible for any Terms of Service violations, legal problems, or fines associated with your use of proxies or scraped data. Better safe than sorry; the legal risks are significant.

    • Ban evasion (with some ethical consideration): Our recommendations regarding ASN rotation and sticky IPs for TikTok (120s sessions, 3 requests/min for a 0.1% ban rate) and Instagram (180s sticky, ASN rotation for a 0.2% ban rate) are technical best practices for dodging bans, not for doing anything illicit.

Our goal with these methods is to mimic legitimate user behavior to safeguard your scraping from detection by anti-botting systems, not to facilitate any data collection that takes place without users’ permission or to enable spammers.

    • Anonymizing payment for ultimate privacy: If you need to pay for privacy (maybe your work is in sensitive geopolitical areas, or it requires such extreme anonymity that handling payments is incredibly important), this is the blueprint:
    • Buy Monero (XMR): Monero is designed to be used in a privacy-first manner and obfuscates most transaction details by default. This is because while Bitcoin does have sufficient information that certain companies can trace transactions reasonably well, Monero is incredibly difficult to trace.
    • Use a VPN located in Switzerland: Switzerland is one of the most privacy-aware countries in the world. While some countries have reasonable privacy regulations, like the United States, Switzerland actually builds privacy into the legality of users’ data. When you connect to a VPN server in Switzerland, you are adding another layer of legal and technical defense against anyone linking your internet activity to your real identity.
    • Checkout using XMR: When you pay using Monero through a Swiss VPN, you are creating a practically untraceable transaction. This circumvents the KYC normally associated with fiat payments, providing absolute anonymity.
