Norton Family Review 2023: Summary

Norton Family

Do you feel confident in your child’s ability to use a smartphone, tablet, or laptop appropriately while they’re not under your constant supervision?

Do you believe in their maturity and judgment to allow unfettered access to the web?

If you’re like most parents, you said “No” to both of these questions.

Perhaps you yelled it!

That suggests you’re considering options for limiting access to inappropriate online content.

There is currently no way to utilize Norton Family on a Mac or a Fire tablet. uMobix is the superior option if your children use any of the above.

Norton Family is a trusted iPhone parental monitoring app, but it isn’t compatible with iOS in all countries.

Norton Family cannot be used in at least 34 countries and territories due to Apple’s restrictions on the iPhone. The most prominent ones include China, Macau, and South Korea.

Pros
  • Benefit from superior geofencing and location-based features
  • Discover your YouTube viewing and search habits by
  • Well-considered default options
  • Features: Compatibility with Windows
Cons
  • You can’t limit what kinds of apps users can access when times.
  • ‘Video monitoring’ is limited to exclusively in-browser watching of YouTube and Hulu.
  • Some minor interface difficulties
  • Doesn’t work with Macs
  • Not Discreet
  • Better monitoring of social media would have been an improvement.

And yet, how good is that?

In this Norton Family review, we’ll examine in detail the parental control app to determine how its features stack up against those of other, more well-known alternatives for keeping children safe while they’re online.

Previously known as Norton Antivirus, NortonLifeLock’s Norton Family Premier is a parental control program.

This review will explain how Norton Family Premier can keep your children safe while using the Internet.

Norton Family Review 2023: In-depth

NortonLifeLock’s Internet monitoring program is called Norton Family (or Parental Control). The company claims that it’s cheap when purchased independently.

It’s also included in complete packages that aim to protect your household from cyber threats.

It doesn’t feel fair to label it a spy app because it doesn’t secretly track kids’ Internet use or read their chats. Not any longer, at least.

Instead, it’s loaded with parental control tools that keep kids from getting into inappropriate web content.

Norton Family has been a choice for families because of its stellar reputation and track record of reliability.

But it is slowly losing this as better alternatives have come into the market with more features and compatibility.

However, not many people seem to be really fond of it.

Over 22,000 positive and negative reviews of Norton Family can be found on Google Play and the App Store, proving my point.

This program must have a major flaw if users only give it an average of 1.4 out of 5 stars.

Installation

The Norton App requires an account to be set up before it can be downloaded.

The pricing on a secret part of Norton’s website, which is much lower than their regular offer, is unbeatable.

After signing up, you’ll be able to add a profile for each kid. You must have that device to download and set up the app on the target device.

If you want to utilize your phone’s camera, you can scan the QR code that Norton Family provides, or you can get its app directly through Google Play or the Apple App Store.

During installation, the software will prompt you to select whether the device belongs to the child or parent.

When downloading an app, it is usual practice to grant permission for the app to access your contacts, photographs, and screen.

It is the case when selecting Kid Device. You should also grant it Device Admin privileges to stop your kid from unintentionally erasing the app.

To access the parental dashboard, create guidelines, and make adjustments to your children’s accounts, you can visit the Norton Family site on your computer or download the mobile app.

What Apps Can Norton Family Premier Monitor Or Control?

If your child is using an Android device, you may check out their downloaded apps.

Additionally, you can disable access to all apps currently running on your device. Focus on these areas, especially dating apps, messaging services, and social media.

Remember that until you manually ban an app, your child will have access to it after installing it.

Therefore, Experts advise you to utilize the in-built Android and iOS parental controls to stop your kid from installing apps.

If you let your child download apps, you should monitor their activity to remove anything inappropriate.

Instant Lock allows you to lock a gadget for however long. Your children will be capable of making and taking phone calls without any problems.

Unfortunately, iOS users can’t use the Mobile App Supervision option.

Instead, you should utilize Apple’s Screen Time feature. uMobix is the best solution to fix this problem as an alternative.

Features: What You Get With Norton Family Premier

Web Supervision

Kids today have the world at their fingertips because of the Internet.

And while there is a wealth of useful instructional materials and kid-friendly entertainment that parents may feel good about, there is also plenty of potentially harmful material that you wouldn’t want their children exposed to (like adult material).

A parental control feature that allows you to block inappropriate websites and monitor which sites your children have visited is available through the Norton Family Premier login portal. But this blocking feature doesn’t work for every website.

Time Supervision

Norton Family

It’s a fact of life that today’s youth spend a great deal of time glued to screens. Portable electronic devices like smartphones and tablets. PCs vs. Macs.

What have you? This is something they do for fun and to interact with others. And the motivation behind this is purely academic.

But it’s not safe to spend too much time on something.

This is why Norton Android parental control allows you to monitor your children’s usage habits.

The developers of the Norton Family app tout it as a means to encourage good lifestyle choices and prevent unhealthy ones.

But the quality of this feature is very poorly rated.

Mobile Apps

Norton Family will display a list of all the apps currently installed on your kid’s Android device in this part. (IOS devices lack a means of centralized app administration.)

If you find that some apps pose a security risk, you can disable them. You can also discover which applications your kid uses the most by going to the Activities page.

Norton Family is not excessively lenient in comparison to other parental control applications in that it demands parental approval of app installs before children can use them on their phones.

Always check the “Activities” menu for any updated software.

Safe Search

Underneath the Search Activities page, you can see every search your child has made on Google, Facebook, Yahoo, Microsoft, and Ask.

The built-in kid filters on these search engines can be activated with a single click.

You’ll have to examine the activity log yourself to know if your kid has entered a certain keyword.

Location Monitoring

Norton Family

The default setting for Norton’s location monitoring is off, but able to switch it on and use it to quickly and easily determine where our test device was.

The accurate representation was shown on the dashboard at first in a Google Map satellite view before switching to a standard map when we zoomed out.

Your kid’s device’s location history can be viewed similarly, and you can even apply filters to the list to see exactly where they were and when.

With geofencing technology, you may set up boundaries around significant areas and receive notifications whenever your kids enter or leave them.

Although Norton can only make circular zones, it gets extra credit for letting you adjust their size and position (by dragging a pin if it’s not quite in the right spot) and making them anywhere from 100 to 3,200 meters in diameter.

Though large zones might be cumbersome to manage, they are ideal if you just care about monitoring your kid while they are in the company of relatives.

For example, if you place one in the local area, your kid can safely go to a friend’s house or the store, and you’ll be alerted if they wander too far from home.

A further benefit is the ability to receive a notification whenever your child enters or departs a predefined area, giving you a degree of control that isn’t necessarily available elsewhere.

However, be wary, as Norton’s location features aren’t accessible in many nations, including the vast majority of European nations.

If you’re worried about something like that, you can look at a list on the website.

Social Media Monitoring

To many parents, Facebook represents a major source of anxiety due to the platform’s potential as a meeting ground for cyberbullies and predators.

Norton Family Premier’s Facebook monitoring features are only available on Windows; monitoring cannot be performed on Android or iOS devices.

Parental control in this situation can be exercised in a few different ways.

If your kids use iPhones, you may prevent them from accessing Facebook by using Screen Time.

Norton Family is not a great option, and you need to restrict access to the social media category and verify that your kid is using it.

The concept is the same on Android, although blocking social media may be done from the app’s main screen.

If you don’t want your kid to go without Facebook, you’ll have to unblock it so they can use it on the family computer, which you can keep an eye on.

The necessity to turn to monitor on and off is not only annoying, but it can also spark ongoing disagreements. Be wary as you go forward.

The method is the same when using Hulu or YouTube. Videos and viewing timestamps and categories can be analyzed for relevant data on the Video tab of the Activity page.

The company claims that it would be preferable if they could also track other video-streaming services, including Amazon Prime Videos and Netflix, in addition to YouTube and Hulu, where this function is currently not available.

But uMobix is highly recommended as an alternative spy app.

  • To enable search supervision, go to the dashboard’s Search menu and click the Switch.
  • Insist that your kid uses Norton as their browser of choice.
  • You may stop videos from playing in Android apps and in iOS’s Screen Time.

Instant Lock

Parents can assist their children in taking a break from their devices by locking them up so they can regroup or join the family for dinner.

A personal identification number (PIN) is used to unlock each device. While in lock mode, parents and children can still text and call each other.

Email Alerts

Norton Family

Get notified by email when your kids try to access a restricted site so you can discuss online safety with them.

Access Request

You should allow your ids to email you a note if they disapprove of a house rule or a blocklisted website.

It’s easy for parents to approve or decline the request from anywhere with access to an internet-connected device.

Monthly/Weekly Reports

Norton Family

You can choose to get in-depth reports sent directly to your inbox about your children’s online activity.

The Norton Family app requires a login to function. You can use this software to create, edit, and enforce household guidelines for your kids.

Watch what your children are watching on YouTube.com with the help of Video Supervision. YouTube clips uploaded on other sites or blogs are not tracked or monitored.

Manage Screen Time

Screen time limits, like web filtering, can be adjusted manually or automatically based on the age of the user’s children.

Although they might ask for more time with their device, they are only allowed to use it for a specified time.

Your request’s approval status will show up as a notification on your dashboard. It is entirely up to you if you wish to invest additional time.

Children need to learn self-control and moderation early on to make responsible decisions about their internet use as adults.

This app is helpful since it encourages healthy, well-rounded development in children.
