BEST INSTAGRAM GROWTH TOOLS
Do you like the new Instagram logo?
Back in the day when Instagram revealed its new logo an early 2016, the Internet more or less broke.
However, don’t they say that time heals all wounds?
It’s been years since the social media giant decided to switch things up with their logo, and for the most part people have come to accept it.
How many people can actually remember what the old Instagram logo looks like?
Today, we are looking back on the history of the Instagram logo, so we can compare the old and the new.
Let’s take a little trip down memory lane, and dive in.
Remembering the Old Instagram Logo
Instagram initially launched back in 2010, but it was only available for people through Apple’s App Store. Barely a year and a half later, people who had Android phones could also download it from the Google Play Store.
If you can look back that far, you might remember that the icon of Instagram’s app looked like a vintage camera, which was relevant to the brand’s mission to foster a community that centered around a joint passion for photography.
At the top of the icon to the left, there were rainbow stripes that gave the vintage camera a splash of color. According to Instagram, the colors represented the vibrant and varied content that they hoped people would share on it.
Over the next few years, the Instagram logo became one of the most recognizable logos in the tech industry and in the world for that matter.
Interestingly, the Instagram logo grew somewhat of a cult following, especially when one dedicated fan even created a cake that looked like it.

The New Instagram Logo
Then, in early 2016, Instagram decided to change things up completely, and replace their famous vintage icon in favor of something a bit more modern. They’re still using the new logo today, and it features the outline of a camera on a gradient background.
Ian Spalter, the head of the design department at Instagram, explains that the Instagram logo symbolised both the evolution of the community and the company.
He explained that when Instagram was first founded, it was a place where you could easily share and edit photos. However, five years later, things have changed, and the company wanted to be able to reflect this in their logo.
He also explained that he and the rest of the design team hopes that people would see this change as a new creative spark that could inspire them.
Old Log vs. New Logo
Well, the new Instagram logo certainly created a spark.
All over the Internet, people responded to the switch up.
Some users vented on Twitter, calling the new Instagram logo ugly.
However, when it came to the design world, the majority of people were pretty chuffed with the new look. One fan tweeted that the simplicity of it was everything.
Other updates that came with the new Instagram logo included red notifications, black font, and a stark white background that Instagram explained put more focus on the videos and photos without changing how you go about using the app.
What is Your Opinion of the New Instagram Logo?
We know that it’s now been more than four years since Instagram changed its logo, but now that people have had time to absorb it, we want to know what you think of the new Instagram logo.
Initially, we ourselves were a bit pessimistic about it, but when all is said and done, we actually think that it was the right move.
We think that Instagram is a place where you can express yourself and try new things, and as the new Instagram logo symbolizes, a lot of the time new things are met with mixed reactions.
The important thing to remember is to never let the fear of failing keep you from doing what you want to do and growing in the right direction.
The new Instagram logo is a stellar example of forging ahead successfully amidst hurdles.
